09/29/05 - 9:03 a.m. updates from the field hi dear: sorry things were so crazy this morning. between the dog eating your scrambled eggs and bagel, the maids coming to clean, and me feeling terribly sluggish, it made for a fairly hectic morning. there is always something that brings me into focus in the mornings, and puts it all in context, and that thing--or rather person--is you. sometimes i check in on you when you are sleeping, and it strikes me that both your physical features and expression are the same as when you were a newborn. long eyelashes resting on still-chubby cheeks and always the slight beginnings of a perplexed frown. and so peaceful, which is a striking change to your manner while awake. you are still as cuddly as when you were a baby-sometimes even more so because you initiate hugs, and you hug back. i do like the head resting on my shoulder when you are tired, and the last hug before bedtime, when you squeeze me very tightly. i never tell you that it is just as hard for me to leave you to your dreams at bedtime. previous - next last 5 entries: updates from the field - 09/29/05 on your 4th birthday - 2005-06-26 almost four and all that brings - 2005-05-30 hoping this works out - 2005-02-07 donuts...mmm... - 2005-02-02
